Indian Mathematician Gets 2018 Ramanujan Prize

Professor Ritabrata Munshi of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, received the 2018 Ramanujam Prize for Young Mathematicians from Developing Countries. The International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) conferred the award on Professor Ritabrata Munshi. The Ramanujan Prize is awarded annually to a researcher from a developing country who is less than 45 years of age. Researchers working in any branch of the mathematical sciences are eligible. The ICTP administers the award jointly with the Department of Science and Technology of India and the International Mathematical Union. The award recognizes Munshi’s outstanding work in number theory, a branch of pure mathematics that studies properties of integers, or numbers that do not have a fractional part.
